242-horsepower 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI

242-horsepower 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI

The automotive world is highly competitive, and that competition works in our favor because it drives change. Automakers are expected to offer fairly frequent updates, which makes a sort of sense. Why would you buy this year’s model if it is coming to dealerships with no changes? You can save some money, and buy last year’s model. The Volkswagen Golf is on its seventh generation and last received a complete redesign for the 2015 model year. A facelift might seem quick, but keep in mind that the model was redesigned a full two years earlier in the European market. For 2017, it’s already receiving a facelift for this model year, which leads us to a speculating. We’re seeing gesture control, new driver assistance, and a lot else, but we also noticed a power boost for the Golf GTI. Does this mean we could be seeing a 242-horsepower Volkswagen Golf GTI for our 2018 model year? (more…)

What is the Volkswagen MIB II system and App-Connect

What is the Volkswagen MIB II system and App-Connect?

Smart shoppers are always looking for ways to get the best deal for their money, and one way to do this is to consider buying a used model rather than the newest option. For those comparing the 2015 model year, which likely has quite a few low-mileage options on the market, the big difference between these options and what you find in 2016 is going to center on technology. Many of the vehicles were recently redesigned, so engine options and appearances primarily remained the same, with notable exceptions for the 2016 VW Jetta and 2016 VW Passat. This being the case, you may have noticed one of the major upgrades is the MIB II infotainment system, but what is the Volkswagen MIB II system and App-Connect? (more…)

Volkswagen AWD cars and SUVs in Las Vegas

Volkswagen AWD cars and SUVs in Las Vegas

All-wheel drive research far too often focuses on winter driving, as if that’s the only reason why you might want a car or SUV with this type of drivetrain. Obviously in Las Vegas, shoppers aren’t likely to search for Volkswagen cars and SUVs with AWD for this reason, but there are still plenty of benefits to AWD. The point in an all-wheel drive system is to improve acceleration from a stop, which is why it’s present on performance models like the 2016 Golf R. There’s an extra feeling of “grip” overall for vehicles with all-wheel drive, and it may be seen as an essential for driving on sand, loose gravel or light mud. (more…)

What to do when your VW key fob fails

What to do if your VW key fob fails

We can’t say we’re pleased when anything goes wrong with our cars, but there’s something especially annoying about when technology goes down. Though not everyone is prepared to perform simple mechanical fixes, we know plenty of people who are mechanically-minded, so a simple oil change doesn’t faze them. It’s a different story when a power feature stops functioning, which is why it’s important to learn what to do if your VW key fob fails. (more…)

VW e-Golf Touch concept radio system

It will always be true that some people like change more than others, but infotainment systems have to be among the most complained about advancements. It’s not because people don’t like better connectivity or options, but because we want them to work exactly like our smartphones. Features like App-Connect help, but they’re new and always have room for improvement. All-Electric VW BUDD-e at 2016 CES

The Consumer Electronics Show is an exciting event for companies from a variety of industries, automotive included. This year we were given a sneak peek from VW early, so everyone was expecting an electric microbus. We’re not entirely sure the all-electric VW BUDD-e is what everyone was expecting at CES 2016, as the five-passenger concept doesn’t entirely bring to mind the Microbus of the 1960s, but it does show many innovative features which may make it into future vehicles.
